Rigs
Mono D-Rig.

How this rig sits on the bottom and the semi stiff hooklink material make this rig more effective than most other standard pop up set ups. The hook is angled at 45 degrees with the point facing slighty down in the perfect position to catch the bottom lip of the carp as soon as it enters the mouth. The slight stiffness of the IQ fluorocarbon keeps the hooklink straight so the fish has to move very little to prick itself. The stiffness can make it hard to get the hook to sit in the right position but the use of a D loop ensures the rig sits the right way every time, placing the shot on the hooklink so more of it hangs on the hangs on the underside further ensures the hook sits in the perfect position. The rig is ideal when being fished as a single bait or over small beds of boilies, keep the pop up as close to the lake bed as you can when fishing over bait to keep it as inconspicuous as possible.
In my opinion the Withy Pool Rig is by far the best pop-up rig around for presentation and hooking.

Unlike other rigs this will hook the carp no matter what angle it comes from.

I have used this rig with great success when all other pop-up rigs have failed, it's great over a bed of baits or as a single casting to a showing fish.

Give it a go and get that extra carp on the bank. Try the Withy Pool Rig next time you go!
The Withy Pool Rig, utilising a free-running rig ring on the hook with hair attached, a float stop to prevent it sliding too far round the hook bend, curved shrink tube and a strategically placed split shot to counterbalance the pop-up bait

Blow back rig   has been hailed as an anti eject wonder, more realistically i feel it is so effective because it allows you to make the point of the hook very heavy so it turns into the flesh of the bottom lip more quickly than a standard rig. This means the carp has to move only millimetres before the point has pricked the flesh, once the hook has caught hold then it may work as an anti eject devise but until that happens i feel the carp could still eject it for in reality there is no perfect anti eject rig, otherwise we would all be on it.You see the way the hook has turned round to dig into the hand, this happened by tightening the hooklink ever so slightly. The essence of the rigs effectiveness is the sliding rig ring which is set as far round the hook as it can be without sliding round to the barb. This puts the bait and the point of the hook in close proximity which makes the point of the hook heavy so it catches

I believe you will get a far more effective rig with a stiff material by using it in short lengths to a maximum of 6-inches or 150mm. Couple that by stripping the coating back to create a 'hinge' and I don't think that you can get a much better presentation.
